Week 7: Using Templates

For this activity, you will first spend some time using an online template, and then share both your template and a brief rationale for your choices (and how the template influenced said choices) with me via Slack. To this end, please complete the following:

  1. Make a free account at www.sutori.com; this will be where you access and fill in your chosen template (see link below as an example).

  2. Choose a topic! This can be anything you want, but please keep it appropriate to be shared with your peers & professor. Once you've chosen a topic, use your chosen Sutori template to make a small webpage about your topic. How this takes shape is left entirely up to you, but I have an example for you here.

  3. Once you've built your page using the template, send me the URL and answers to the following questions via Slack:

  • In what ways did the template prevent or constrain something you wanted on your page? That is, was there something you wanted to include, or a look you were trying to go for, that the template prevented or inhibited? Explain your reasoning here.

  • In what ways did the template allow you to do something you wouldn't have been able to do otherwise? This could be something as broad as letting you make a website without knowing HTML, or as specific as being able to change the sizes of pictures easily.

  • How did the template influence both your design AND content decisions, if at all? That is, in what ways does the template style/structure influence the larger message of your content?

This activity is due Sunday 11/1 by 11:59PM EST via Slack.
