Week 8: Practice Remediation

This week, you will spend some time practicing the remediation process with a smaller example. This will let you not only take a whack at what you'll have to do more formally for your next major project, but will also let you experiment with some of the various remediation software available to you. For this activity, then, please complete the following:

  1. Return to this week's reading, Shipka's chapter titled "Negotiating Rhetorical, Technological, & Methodological Difference."  Find about 2-3 pages of this reading that you especially enjoyed or found useful. This is your source material for the remediation activity.

  2. Choose a new target audience for the information from the following options:
Children ages 8-10                      Older Adults (65+ years)                          School Principal                       The Average Reddit User
Teachers                                       Your friends at the bar                             College students                      Graphic Novel Writer

  3. Once you've chosen a new target audience, remediate the information from your chosen pages into a new mode, making any changes necessary so that it is both informative and engaging to your new target audience. You can make an Infographic at Piktochart, or a video on Pow Toon, or maybe you even want to make a website on Wix or Strikingly, but no matter what, you've got tons of options. Just make sure to limit yourself to the information on 2-3 pages; you don't want your activity to get too big trying to tackle the whole chapter.

  4. Once you're happy with your remediation, send it, the page numbers it's referencing, and your chosen target audience to me via Slack.

This activity is due Sunday 11/8 by 11:59PM EST via Slack.
